Lost in cyber space....
It is now Wednesday morning and I just came to this blog so that I can update some information regarding the meet we will be attending this coming weekend. On Monday, I had posted a race summary and a few pictures from the Aldrich Invitational but it does not seem to be on the blog. Not exactly sure what happened to that post but now will give a brief review of the meet.
It WAS a great day to be a Panther. We had great running weather, an enthusiastic and supportive crowd and some strong times for the meet. We continued to focus on having our teams work together and rely on each other. It is a tactic that we rely on and will employ in future races. It was a fun meet and the team's did very well. Kudos to Addie Tousley & Jack Davies for taking home the overall individual wins. The teams enjoyed a fabulous post race party, compliments of the parents of the team members. (THANK YOU!!!! )
This year, and in future years, we will not be giving winning plaques to the winning teams. Instead, we will take the money that would have been spent on the awards and donate it to a charity of the winning teams choice, whether it be a local, national or international charity. The donation will be made on behalf of the team and they will receive a card acknowledging them and thanking them for their gift. Ideally, that card would be placed in the locker rooms or something like that during the season and the Captains can then have the card when the season is over. It is a small way of giving back. The overall joy and fun in the sport is getting to compete and while earning a 'win' is fantastic, the plaque is just a symbol of that and not what is the most important. As the Middlebury teams were the victors this past Saturday, they were completely on board and excited about this idea. Both teams decided to donate their funds to MALT (Middlebury Area Land Trust) which is a local organization that maintains all of the trails around Middlebury. It a great organization for our team to acknowledge and support, particularly since more than the majority of our runs are on those trails.
Training continues to go well, had a GREAT session at Chipman Hill in the rain yesterday!
This coming weekend, we will be competing at the Purple Valley Classic, which is hosted by Williams College. The races are held at Mt. Greylock High School in Williamstown. The men race at noon and the women will race 6k at 12:45.
Have a great week!
Nicole
